What is the Difference Between the Words Fail and Fall

At times some words are confusing due to their pronunciation specifics. We have already discussed one of the meanings of the word Fall before. However, today we are going to look at its practical usage and difference from the word Fail. The attention will be mainly paid to the verb form.


Fall

A woman who slipped on a banana peel.

Falling is not just a season between Summer and Winter, but also a Verb that describes an act of

suddenly going down, intentionally or by coincidence by the Cambridge Dictionary. It has synonyms, such as drop, drop down, decline, fall off, etc.


UK pronunciation /fɔːl/

US pronunciation /fɑːl/


It is also an irregular verb with Past Form – fell, and Past Participle – fallen.


Fail


Fail is a Verb and a Noun also. The Verb form means not to succeed in what you are trying to achieve or do. The noun would mean almost the same, an unsuccessful result in a course, test, exam or any other action proved to be unlucky. Both meanings by the Cambridge Dictionary. It has synonyms, such as breakdown, crash, unsuccessful, etc.


UK and US pronunciation /feɪl/


It is a regular Verb with Past Simple and Past Participle – failed.
